NFL Recap: Broncos Edge Hapless Jets in Defensive Battle
In a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Broncos managed to secure a 13-11 victory over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter touchdown pass and specialist Wil Lutz kicked the late go-ahead field goal to secure the hard-fought win.
Defensive Performance Seals Game
Even with registering nine sacks versus Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 following giving up a two-point play in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce just 82 offensive yards throughout the entire game.
The Denver quarterback, who completed 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, led a critical 12-play, 65-yard possession that ended with Lutz's short kick with approximately five minutes remaining.
Historic Struggles for Jets Offense
In spite of their dismal performance, the Jets still had the ball with a chance to drive for a possible victory. But Fields was tackled on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn opted to attempt the conversion instead of calling on kicker Nick Folk for a difficult field-goal attempt.
Fields had difficulties all game, completing just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York finished with negative ten net yards passing, the fewest in any game since 1998.
"The aerial attack was non-existent," the coach stated following the game.
