Manchester Synagogue Attack: A Casualty Appears to Have Been Shot by Police

During a devastating turn of events, one of the individuals killed at the Heaton Park synagogue assault appears to have been fatally wounded by law enforcement personnel.

Police Announcement Reveals Gunshot Wound

The senior officer of Greater Manchester Police stated that the Home Office pathologist has initially concluded the victim died of a gunshot wound.

“We sought guidance overnight from the Home Office pathologist ahead of detailed autopsies set to occur later today. The expert has advised that preliminary findings show a victim would appear to have suffered a injury matching a firearm wound.”

Suspect Details

The suspect, Jihad al-Shamie, did not have a firearm, and all discharged rounds were by authorized firearms personnel on site.

Authorities think the victim was among those behind the synagogue door seeking to prevent the attacker from entering the building.

Outcome of Intervention

“It follows therefore that subject to further forensic examination, the wound may sadly have been sustained as a tragic and unforeseen consequence of the necessary rapid response employed by our personnel to bring this vicious attack to an end.”

Victims Identified

The two victims killed in the attack at Heaton Park synagogue in north Manchester on Thursday had been named as Adrian Daulby, aged 53 and Melvin Cravitz, 66 years old.

These individuals were killed when a vehicle was employed to ram into the property of the local Jewish place of worship, before the attacker targeted attendees in a brief violent spree that ended only when police with firearms shot at him twice, ending his life at the door of the temple.

Further Harm

Three others sustained major injuries in the violent act on the Day of Atonement, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

The chief constable added, “We have also been advised that one of the three victims now hospitalized has also suffered a firearm injury, which is mercifully not life threatening. It is believed both victims were close together behind the synagogue door, as worshippers acted bravely to stop the assailant from gaining entry.”

Community Support

“We extend our condolences are directed toward all of the families, and broader public, impacted by this incident across Greater Manchester and beyond. Trained personnel are offering aid and care for everyone involved, including the courageous emergency teams.”

Attacker Profile

Authorities identified the perpetrator as Shamie, thirty-five, a British citizen of Syrian origin.

Local law enforcement said that three other people – two men in their 30s and a woman in her 60s – had been arrested “for alleged involvement in planning of acts of terrorism”.
